But, it's what our family does. Weird as it may seem, when family loses family, we go. And so we went, my daughter, her daughters, and me.
Rain, detours, seven year old vocally unhappy about not having internet connections in "the middle of nowhere" as she put it, and the toddler deciding to try out one of her new words, "poop", to the tune of wailing it for 32 miles. It was great! I couldn't wait for the return four hour drive home.
Then God laughed and showed His face.
Two days before our reckless road trip, I had written to my aunt and mentor about how much I wanted to spend time just visiting with my daughter, Mary. Our lives are probably similar to yours, busy to the point of chaos sometimes. There's always kids and husbands and work and just stuff that seem to interfere with time for us to have a quiet conversation.
So, God did one of His lemonade tricks and the drive home, after the little ones in the back seat drifted off, turned into some of the most blessed time I've had in a long while.
Mary and I talked about the kids and husbands and work and weed killer and a myriad of other things. Now that WAS great! I don't know about Mary, but it was one of those clean sheets hanging on the clothesline on a sunny, breezy day refreshing times for me.
What works for me (and sadly I forget to do, too often) is to declare and share. Declare the desires of my heart to the Lord, then share with someone I trust.
How about you? What do you do when you have an ache within and you just don't seem to have time to address it?
