Why were so many passengers heading for Toledo, Ohio at the crack of dawn on a Saturday? Alas! My eyes were open, kind of, but my brain sure wasn't awake.
As soon as we lined up to board, I realized something wasn't quite right. (Okay, so it wasn't as weird as our flight from Denver. It's hard to top a viable bomb threat.) I started noticing team logos on nearly all of the other passengers, infants and toddlers included. Still in drone mode, we merged onto the plane with the fans.

That's when I knew: we'd gotten on the wrong plane! We'd stumbled onto the "fan plane" instead of the "nerd express". Yikes!
The worse thing about being on the wrong plane? Tough call. Was it not knowing the fight song? Not having matching shirts? Naahhh!
The worst part of getting on the wrong plane was feeling like an outsider. Feeling like I had absolutely nothing in common with my fellow travelers.
Have you been in a similar situation? A situation that makes you feel awkward and ignorant? How did you handle it? Did you sink down into your seat, like me? Maybe you covertly pulled out your phone to snag some intel. Or quickly put on your sunglasses to hide your chagrin or confusion.
Life is full of "plane rides". Whether you tend to be poised or puzzled, I pray none of yours are on the wrong plane.
