14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In our very electronic age, we typically don’t think of candles as utilitarian. Most of us have candles somewhere in our homes. We use them for decorating or fragrance, but have you ever had to use them to read by?
What a life, what an adventure I've been blessed to be a part of! Only Yahweh could have come up with such a script. And only now do I see His hand was always upon me.
36 He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.” An elementary school where I served had a diverse student population. One year two children entered my classroom immediately after arriving in the United States, with almost no English language.
What on earth am I doing sitting under this palm tree? Has everyone gone off the deep end, or just the people talking to me? After Ehud died, the people again did what the Lord said was wrong. 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Our daughter received a small rocking chair for her first birthday. Subsequent children used it, but it’s always been “Mary’s rocker”. Our granddaughter, Annalyn, used it for a couple of years, until she figured out she was a "big girl".
Moses and Zipporah 7/8 Jael (see Deborah's story) 7/22 Ruth and Boaz 7/29 Holy God, thank you for the blessing of faithful parents. This is such a mixed up mess, I don't know how I could possibly function without their foundation of trust in you.
