When Bobby got home from school, he meant to make a special invitation for Alex and take it over to his house. After Bobby and Bonnie finished their snack, Mama said Papa had suggested they meet him at the store to pick out some decorations because they had done a good job planning the party. Since their shopping took a little longer than they planned, Papa suggested they go by their favorite sandwich shop for a quick supper.
Tuesday morning, Bobby jumped out of bed when he remembered he still hadn’t invited Alex to the party. He dressed quickly, and then rushed to the kitchen to make an invitation. It looked pretty good, even if it didn’t have any glitter. Bobby was sure Alex would be glad to get his special invitation.
Since Bobby and Alex weren’t in the same grade, the only time they saw each other was at lunch. Bobby thought he was smart when he put Alex’s invitation in his lunch bag. Unfortunately, Bobby didn’t close the bag completely after he put in his freshly washed grapes. Some of the water had dripped onto the lettering on Alex’s invitation making it just a picture of a colorful swirl.
“I can’t believe this!” Bobby thought, mentally slapping his forehead. “I better make sure to catch up with Jack at recess.”
By the time it was recess, Bobby was almost dreading talking to Jack. What if Jack couldn’t come to his party either? Why did Mama and Papa let him decide who to invite all by himself? His first friends’ party was already starting to be less fun than he had hoped.
“Hey, Jack! Please tell me you can come to my party on Saturday!” Bobby called.
“About that….,” Jack hesitated.
“Oh no,” thought Bobby, “here we go again.”
18 As Jesus was walking by Lake Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (called Peter) and Simon’s brother Andrew. These brothers were fishermen, and they were fishing in the lake with a net. 19 Jesus said to them, “Come, follow me, and I will make you a different kind of fishermen. You will bring in people, not fish.” 20 Simon and Andrew immediately left their nets and followed him.
