Soon after I'd returned the tapes, mostly unlistened to, Winona invited me to go listen to Joyce Meyer at a nearby church. (I subsequently had to sheepishly ask to borrow the tapes afterwards.)
As I look toward Thanksgiving, I will always be thankful that Winona didn't give up on me. She took the Great Commission seriously. That service started me on a journey deeper and wider than any I had ever imagined.
“God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you..."
Matthew 28:19 MSG
Then the King will say, ‘I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.’
God calls and equips each of us for service in His Kingdom. I'd love to be a best-selling author reaching thousands of kids through books of hope. We'll see what the Lord has in mind for me.
In the meantime, I can give Him an offering of service to the children in my world, and support for missions like Hand of Hope Ministries. What are your favorite thanksgiving offerings?
