Originally, we had hoped to combine a little business (kids's outreach business) with pleasure. Turns out that wasn't God's plan. Followed the same "cold call" process as I have in other cities, but the doors for Read & Gives, and book signings just didn't open. Huh! Still don't know what that's about.
But you know what? I was a bit disappointed at first, and puzzled. Steadily, those small feelings fizzled out. I totally love reading Life with Bobby and Bonnie to at risk kids and giving them their own books. It's also tons of fun to meet new people while signing books at a Barnes and Noble store.
Do you know what's even better? Resting in the Lord's will. Knowing that He has a unique plan for each of our lives. Toledo kids aren't the ones I'm supposed to reach out to . . . right now. God's already written the names of all the people who will purchase my book in their copies. I don't think He minds if we're puzzled as long as we trust Him for the outcome.
I think Satan knows God is planning a bit of TLC for Tom and I. My friend, Brenda, is the most loving and generous person you can imagine. A few days with her, undistracted by other commitments, may be just the ticket. But the devil doesn't seem too happy about that.
Quirky things are have been happening to steal our peace. Things like the online banking security process changed this week. Let me just tell you, Tom isn't a happy camper when he has to spend over twenty minutes on hold. Now, times that by three. I think I saw smoke coming out of his ears. Little stuff like the new winter jammies I ordered for the trip being delayed in delivery. Nothing catastrophic, but still annoying.
And God smiles, then offers encouragement to remind us that He's paying attention. Getting ready to pack and realize my traveling purse is getting pretty shabby. Stopped by the mall on the way home from school and found the perfect replacement for 80% off between sale, coupon and discount. Sweet!
My crazy feet and knees, that have plagued me for over a year, are doing great! That's a really big deal. God's been paying attention to all the details in our lives, large and small. I think God loves to show us that he does.
Are there any adventures looming on your horizon? Are you willing to let go and let God guide your trip's GPS? You have my prayers for traveling mercies that start before you ever leave your house. Who knows, maybe our adventure will include spotting Cpl. Maxwell Klinger (M.A.S.H. 4077) at Packo's!
