When I got my tablet, I also got a new favorite tech tool: a stylus! Don't you love them? They're sleek AND smart. Being the finger fashion conscious person I am, I'm all about using a stylus to preserve the style of long, brightly painted nails.
Okay, back to Tom, but just for a minute. The first fight Tom and I had was about my fingernails. Pretty silly, right? Tom's mom has never seemed overly concerned with style or fashion, no cosmetics of any kind for her. Her beauty comes from within. Vain as I am, I didn't think Tom was used to noticing details of appearance.
I came home from college a couple of weeks after we decided to get married and picked out a ring. As soon as I got in the car with Tom, he looked at my nails and got ticked off. What had happened to my fingernails! How was I to know he had my engagement ring in his pocket?
I'd trimmed my nails down so they would be long for the holidays. But, Tom loved it when I wore what we fondly called "hooker red" polish on long nails. Apparently, he wanted us to be able to show off my new ring, hooker red nails and all.
Our cat, Maisie, loves to get into the drawer between mine and Tom's chairs. It's full of teacher stuff, including my treasured stylus pen to use with my phone. Brat Cat chewed the rubbery tip off, making it virtually useless.
Soon after, Tom came proudly strolling in from work. He said he had a present for me. Hmmm, who doesn't like presents? He reached in his bag and pulled out a new stylus pen.
I'm so thankful Tom is a godly man! Frequently, I benefit from his godliness twice over. Once, in his gracious words or deeds. More importantly, I can see God's reflection in Tom. Tom being God's mirror helps me grow in my relationships to both of them.
I never asked Tom to get me a new stylus. (That's not to say I didn't whine about my toothy tabby.) Tom knew it was helpful and he wanted to get one for me. Isn't that kinda like God?
You know, those prayers that we may not have even articulated to ourselves. Maybe it's a need we keep trying to ignore. Or, maybe it's just a want we're too embarrassed to even whisper.
Lean in close. I'm going to tell you something that took a long time for me to really understand. Are you listening? Okay, here it is: IF WE CARE, HE CARES.
It doesn't matter what it is. God cares about EVERY aspect of our lives. During our Savior's last night in His robe of humanity, He told His disciples, "You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it." (John 14:14 NIV)
Did you catch that? ANYTHING. And since He didn't want His disciples, or us, to miss it, Jesus told them the same thing, three more times. How great is that?
Dear Reader, I pray there is a godly person close to you. I pray you are far wiser than me and have been already sharing every need and want with God. I pray once in a while, God remembers what you may have forgotten. . . and blesses you like crazy!
