Nope. (And this is where I stuck my foot right in it.) This guy asked the homeboys how things were going with the folks back home.
They answered, “Nehemiah, the Jews who escaped captivity and are in the land of Judah are in much trouble. They are having many problems and are full of shame because the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”
Nehemiah 1: 3 ERV
So, I did the only thing I knew to do. I hit my knees, bowed my head, and went to the Lord God of Israel (with lots of prayer and supplication).
"O Lord, let thy ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants who delight to fear thy name; and give success to thy servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.”
Nehemiah 1: 11 RSV
What was I thinking?
Here I was in a big, beautiful city with my big, important job. All of a sudden, I found myself asking, "You want me to do what, Lord?"
