It's pretty calming when Maisie relaxes on my lap. And who doesn't love the gentle whooshing sound of kitty snores? All that pales in comparison to sleeping beauty.
With her tiny head tucked under my chin, her tiny heart next to mine, the sweetness of the moment overwhelmed me. I couldn't help but wonder if Annalyn would ever comprehend just how loved and precious she was to us.
And how many of us have carried a worn-out toddler off to bed. The weight of her relaxed and trusting body may have threatened a back injury, but the peace that passes understanding easily flows from one to the other.
I held and rocked our babies for as many years as they would let me. Those precious moments of sleeping beauty can't be erased. Moments of trust and peace and staggering love.
When we run into our Heavenly Father's arms, I'll bet He feels the same way, don't you, Dear Reader? When we finally collapse from our own efforts and to find comfort and rest that only He can give it's a moment of sleeping beauty for both of us.
Dear Reader, the holidays and gatherings are stumbling over each other, vying for our attention. And it's all wonderful, anticipated with joy, and can be exhausting. I hope you and yours will also share times of respite and you will be blessed by the sleeping beauty to be found in Jesus.
