assurance: a being certain in the mind
As the first day of class approached, I got scared, not concerned, but flat out scared. After seventeen years...what was I thinking?
"It's only fourteen weeks; you can do anything for fourteen weeks. Besides, you're a strong person; you got this!" she enthusiastically assured me.
During the next five years of completing my bachelor's degree, my friend's assurance carried me through more than a few times. And thankfully, her assurance lingered into subsequent degree programs.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 11:28-30 MSG
Have you launched a new endeavor recently, Dear Reader? Maybe a new phase of life? Marriage, career, family, empty-nesting?
Over time, I've learned that no matter how well we plan the next big thing, there will always be unknowns. It took me a little longer to figure out the Lord probably wants it that way. How else would we learn to lean into the Lord, Dear Reader?
Praise God, when we are obedient to His will, He provides us with the assurance we need, when we need it. By equipping us to fulfill His will for our lives, the Lord also empowers us to be leaders in His Kingdom.
5 If you want favor with both God and man, and a reputation for good judgment and common sense, then trust the Lord completely; don’t ever trust yourself. 6 In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.
