37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Matthew 25: 37–40
I was frustrated trying to decide which pants to take, while there are children I teach every day who only have one pair of school pants. Some days a child may come to school with pants that are slightly damp after being washed in the bathtub and hung up to dry overnight.
Seriously, how could I be fighting with hangers over which pairs of pants to take?
I’ve read that our country is the wealthiest nation in the world. We are bombarded by media that loves to share the excesses of the “rich and famous”. Stories about poverty in our cities, children who routinely do without the basic necessities of life, don’t sell many magazines or viewing slots.
It’s easy to donate to missions when we have the opportunity. How often do we seek others, face to face...hand to hand, to help with no regard for personal gain? We did nothing to earn God’s favor, but He still offers it to one and all on a daily basis.
What’s one way I can share with someone in need today?
