When asked at the first gathering of the event how the accommodations were, I responded that it's all a matter of perspective. The location was on the spectrum between Motel 6 and the Venetian, leaning more towards the Motel 6 end.
Not to worry, upon returning from the first gathering, our greeters were human: FOUR bus loads of middle school girls! And truly, I think most of them were on our floor. Is it better or worse to knock on an adjoining door to request the noise level be reduced? Sigh . . .
Oh well, the tv had 419 channels to give Tom a little variety while I tried to get a handle on Google +. When his chin dropped for the third time, I figured it was time for me to unplug. Thankfully, the middle school girls also seemed to be winding down.
Have you ever had a time when you did your research, thought things through, and then . . . it didn't turn out quite like you'd hoped or imagined? Probably all of us have to some degree or another.
The good news is nothing surprises God: "I thought about all this very carefully. I saw that God controls what happens to the good and wise people and what they do." (Ecclesiastes 9:1a ERV) I don't know about you, but that gives me great comfort, especially when things don't turn out like I'd hoped.
And God doesn't leave us there. He is the God of "more": "And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans." (Romans 8:28 TLB) He's not surprised, or a bystander. God's working for our good, and that's pretty great, People!
But wait, it gets even better! God knows what's going on, he's working things out for us, and he doesn't settle for second best: "With God’s power working in us, God can do much, much more than anything we can ask or think of." (Ephesians 3:20 ICB) Did you catch that, Dear Reader? God can do much, much more.
God wants only the best for his kids. And that's us! You and me! Guess what? The towels may have been the best part of the accommodations, but having our precious granddaughters nestled in before the big event of the weekend left the towels in the dust!
God is so good, Dear Reader! When I turn my senses down a notch, and my heart up a notch, I can see his goodness all around me. Sweet dreams, Dear Reader! God's got it all under control.
